Ben began riding when he was eight and competed in pony classes from an early age. After leaving school, he began training with British rider Liz Edgar, before travelling to Switzerland where he spent two years riding for Swiss show jumper Beat Mandli.

Ben was a very successful Young Rider, helping the British Young Riders to a Team European Gold in 2004. Ben has since become a regular member of the senior British international team. He won Team Gold at the 2012 London Olympics after which he was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by Her Majesty The Queen. Ben has also won Team Bronze at the 2011 European Championships and Team Gold and Individual Silver at the 2013 European Championships. In 2021, he was crowned Olympic Champion riding his 'horse of a lifetime' Explosion W - a horse who also helped him to secure consecutive LGCT Championship titles. Ben will be one to watch in the coming season.
