Off the Clock with Eduardo Menezes

From Brazil to Europe, Eduardo Menezes reflects on family, loyalty, and the pursuit of a first LGCT Grand Prix win.

Off the Clock with Eduardo Menezes

In a sport defined by constant movement, Eduardo Menezes has built his career on something far more enduring - consistency, loyalty, and a clear sense of purpose.

Now competing at the highest level of the Longines Global Champions Tour, the Brazilian rider arrives with over two decades of experience behind him, yet still chasing one of the sport’s most coveted milestones: a first LGCT Grand Prix victory.

His story begins far from the world’s biggest arenas. Raised in Brazil, Menezes was introduced to horses almost before he could walk, growing up on his family’s cattle ranch and riding in a western style from a young age. What began as instinctive familiarity quickly turned into something deeper - a lifelong connection to the sport.

As his ambitions grew, so too did his horizons. Inspired by following international competition from afar, Menezes made the defining decision to move to Europe at just 18, setting the foundation for a professional career that has since spanned continents, championships, and generations of the sport.

Today, family remains central to everything he does. A recent return to Belgium was driven not by competition alone, but by the desire to keep his three children close as they grow up - a decision that underlines the balance he has worked to create between life and sport.

Alongside that personal foundation sits another constant: a long-standing partnership with H5 Stables and Carlos Hank. What began as sponsorship has evolved into something far more meaningful over the past two decades - a relationship built on trust, shared ambition, and mutual belief.

“It’s more than sponsorship - it’s a family feeling,” Menezes says.

That connection is especially evident when competing in Mexico, where familiarity extends beyond the stables. Surrounded by friends, supporters, and a passionate crowd, the environment brings a sense of ease that is rare at this level of the sport.

“I feel at home here,” he says simply.

That comfort has translated into clarity in the ring this week. Partnering H5 London Time, Menezes approached the qualifiers with a defined strategy - prioritising execution and ensuring a place in the LGCT Grand Prix field. In a format where qualification carries its own pressure, experience proved key.

From the outset, the feeling with the horse was undeniable. The focus remained on delivering a composed, efficient performance - allowing the horse to build confidence while staying firmly within the plan.

“From the warm-up on, he gave me a great feeling,” Menezes explains. “I just focused on my plan and he delivered.”

With London Time in top form - “10 out of 10,” as Menezes describes - attention now turns to the bigger challenge ahead.

A Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix victory remains one of the few boxes left to tick in an already distinguished career. But as he looks ahead, there is no sense of urgency - only belief.

“To win an LGCT Grand Prix means everything to me,” he says. Speaking ahead of the LGCT Grand Prix of Mexico, he added “I haven’t won one yet… but I hope I am 24 hours away from doing it.”

It’s a statement that captures both ambition and patience - the mindset of a rider who understands that at this level, success is never forced, only earned.

And with the right horse, the right team, and a foundation built over a lifetime in the sport, Eduardo Menezes stands ready for that moment when it comes.
