Ireland’s Sean Monaghan claimed victory in the CSI2* Hyde Park Stables Trophy, stopping the clock at 29.93 seconds aboard his talented eight year-old Selle Italiano gelding Tiberio della Caccia.
South Africa’s Holly Samantha Cox took second with Jinocentia Eickenrode, while Brazil’s Manuela de Freitas Barbosa Saboya Lolli secured third riding Queena.
Monoghan, making his first appearance at the Longines Global Champions Tour of London, praised his horse’s consistency and versatility,
“He’s a big horse, touching around 17hh, and he’s been incredible all his life - I’ve had him from the start. He would’ve been a very good stallion!” Reflecting on the track, Monoghan explained: “It was a nice track, there was nothing too hard to catch them out, but the jump-off was difficult. The turn to the planks was hard and the double came up quick. But you can ask my guy to do anything and I’m willing to take that chance.”
Looking ahead, Monaghan will return to the arena tomorrow alongside his student Alex O’Connor, who will be making his debut in a ranking class. The Irish rider left no doubt about what the win meant to him: “Very happy! it’s my first time riding here in London. It’s a good experience for both myself and my horse!”.
My vision is clear. Only the best for the best.
