Farewell to a Legend: Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot Takes His Final Bow

A chapter closes this weekend in Madrid, as Eduardo Álvarez Aznar’s iconic partner, Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot, takes his final bow on the Longines Global Champions Tour stage.

Known simply as Roky to those who loved him most, the iconic bay gelding has been a constant in Eduardo’s life - and a fixture on the LGCT circuit - for the better part of a decade. Together, they’ve tackled some of the world’s most prestigious arenas, thrilling fans and making memories in equal measure. From Rome to Riyadh, Rabat to Ramatuelle, St. Tropez, they’ve travelled the world together.

But this moment - this farewell - is more than just a goodbye. It’s a tribute to a partnership built on trust, consistency, and quiet brilliance.

“Rocky changed my life,” Eduardo says simply. “He is always willing to fight for his rider like a gladiator, every single time he goes into the ring.”

Their swansong came in spectacular fashion. In 2024, under the setting sun in Rabat, Rocky delivered one of the greatest performances of his career - soaring to victory in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Rabat, the final LGCT Grand Prix of the championship season. That win was the exclamation point and crowning moment on a storied career - not just a triumphant last hurrah, but a fitting reminder of the pair’s enduring greatness.

From the electric energy of Madrid to the glamour of Monaco and the intensity of Paris, Rocky and Eduardo have long been one of the most admired combinations in the sport. Their blend of composure, carefulness, and competitive fire made them a team you could never count out - and one the crowds adored.

Across the paddock, admiration for Roky runs deep. Riders speak of him with reverence – not just for his consistency and class, but for his heart and the quiet intensity he brought to every arena.

“He’s retiring fit, sound, and happy – it’s great to see,” said the legendary John Whitaker, acknowledging a career that ends on a high note.

“For me,” added Maikel van der Vleuten, “he’s a freak – in the best possible way.”

Eric van der Vleuten echoed the sentiment with characteristic wit: “I’ve always said he has eyes in his feet. I’d call him a genius.”

From icons of the sport to younger stars who grew up watching him compete, the message is the same – Roky wasn’t just a good horse. He was unforgettable.

As he takes his final lap in front of a home crowd in Madrid, the applause will speak volumes. Not just admiration, but deep gratitude – for the joy, the brilliance, and the legacy he leaves behind.

Goodbye Roky
