Getting around in London

The Shard

This impressive building offers unobstructed 360 views of the city from 244m height. 

Tower of London

This historic tower, built in 1066 is synonymous with the Beefeaters, and offers tours showcasing an important part of London’s history. It is situated close to Tower Bridge, and visits to these two iconic sights can easily be combined.

St Paul’s Cathedral

St Paul’s is one of the most famous cathedrals in the world and was completed in 1708 and is a popular attraction. It is situated close to the Millenium bridge, which is an architecturally designed footbridge spanning the River Thames. 

Markets

London is home to many markets, ranging from Borough Market (known for street food and a market since 1276), Columbia Road Flower Market, and Portobello Market (known for vintage clothing and antiques). 

Tate Modern

This well-known museum houses a permanent exhibitions of Picasso, Warhol and Dali works and is located on London’s South Bank, and so is ideal to combine with a walk along the river, taking in the street performers, markets, bars and restaurants along this stretch of river.  

British Museum

This museum is dedicated to human history, art and culture. Its permanent collection of some eight million works is among the largest and most comprehensive in existence.

National Portrait Gallery

Art gallery on Trafalgar Square housing a collection of portraits and artwork of historically important and famous people. It was the first portrait gallery in the world when it opened in 1856. 

Natural History Museum 

This museum exhibits a vast range of specimens from various segments of natural history. It is one of three major museums on Exhibition Road in South Kensington, the others being the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Changing of the Guard

This ceremony at Buckingham Palace occurs daily at 11am in June and July and every other day the rest of the year, and is a popular and traditional sight.
