Cannes

The stunning Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL event takes place a stone’s throw from the beach and the Port of Cannes in this ‘City of Stars’ and combines world-class show jumping with the elegance and history of this iconic location.

There has been a settlement on the site occupied by Cannes since the 2nd Century BC, when the site was mainly used as a fishing village between the Lérins Islands and the mainland. In the 10th century the town was known as Canua, and it is believed the name derives from ‘canna’, a reed common in the area at the time. In the 19th Century, Cannes’ reputation grew as a luxurious destination for wealthy visitors attracted by the many exclusive hotels along the shoreline.

Airport Transfer Services

Nice Airport is 28km from Cascais and has a range of transfer options available including taxi, bus and train. 

The journey by taxi will take between 30-45 min by taxi, depending on the traffic. 

The Cannes Express 210 direct bus line departs from Terminal 1 and will take you into the center of Cannes in 45 minutes.

You can also take the train direct from Nice Airport into Cannes centre. This takes 26 minutes. 

Getting around in Cannes

The most efficient way to travel around and inside Cannes is by bus or on foot.

Navette City Palm- A small green shuttle bus circulating the city center of Cannes, from Monday- Saturday every 10-15 minutes and only costing 0.75€ per journey. 

It is also possible to travel along the coast to other riviera towns by train. The train station serves some of the bigger towns, (Nice, Antibes, Cagnes sur Mer), with beautiful views of the Meditarranean sea.

Things to Do

The best way to explore Cannes is to walk along the Promenade de la Croisette and wonder around the Old Town and the Old Port. Make sure to also try some of the multiple water sports available all along the beaches in Cannes. 

Lerins Islands: A group of four Islands just a boat ride from Cannes, with Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat, being the largest of the four. Covered by eucalyptus, pine forests and are Sainte-Marguerite is home to the famous fortress prison Fort Royal, whilst Ile Saint -Honorat is home to a community of monks living in a monastery built on the 19^th century. 

You can either book a tour at the tourism office or at your hotel, or take the ferry and explore the island by yourself. 

Croix des Gardes Forest Natural Park : For great walks and unbeatable 360 panoramic view of the coast, make sure to visit the 80 hectares of Mediterranean vegetation, located less than one kilometer away from the Croisette. 

The city of Cannes offers some excursions for 1 day or half a day. With these you can visit some nice parts of the south of France (Monaco, St-Tropez etc.)

Museums: Within Cannes and along the coast there are many small museums in beautiful old castles; whether is art and ethnography at the Musée de la Castre, ocean artifacts and the Musée de la Mer or the historical landmark of the Chateau de la Napoule, there are many different options all within historic landmarks.
