Heading along the French coast straight to the glamour destination of Cannes for the seventh stage of the drama-filled season
The glamorous city of Cannes is a jewel of the French Riviera, famous for its film festival, super yachts, and the beautiful 3km long Croisette with its stylish boutiques along the glittering Mediterranean shoreline.
The stunning Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL event takes place a stone’s throw from the beach and the Port of Cannes in this ‘City of Stars’ and combines world-class show jumping with the elegance and history of this iconic location.
There has been a settlement on the site occupied by Cannes since the 2nd Century BC, when the site was mainly used as a fishing village between the Lérins Islands and the mainland. In the 10th century the town was known as Canua, and it is believed the name derives from ‘canna’, a reed common in the area at the time. In the 19th Century, Cannes’ reputation grew as a luxurious destination for wealthy visitors attracted by the many exclusive hotels along the shoreline.
