Hamburg is Germany’s biggest port city and its second largest city. The LGCT/GCL event is held at the Derby-Park Klein Flottbeck, which has hosted top-class equestrian sport for many decades. The event is hugely popular, and attracted over 80,000 people to the vast show ground in 2019.

Hamburg is one of the greenest cities in Europe, with about 14% of the city’s area covered with gardens and parks. It is home to two UNESCO World Heritage sites, both declared in 2015: The Speicherstadt and Kontorhausviertel districts. The name Hamburg comes from the first permanent building on the site, a castle which the Emperor Charlemagne ordered constructed in AD 808.

A city of music, it is home to Germany’s oldest opera house and a stunning concert hall - The Elbphilharmonie, which dominates the skyline, and both Johannes Brahms and Felix Mendelssohn were born in the city. Not just confined to classical music the city has a dynamic music scene and hosts many festivals catering for all tastes throughout the year. The nightlife, bar and restaurant scenes are well renowned and each neighbourhood has its own culinary specialities offering a great experience for all budgets and tastes.
