As the sun set over Riyadh, the CSI5* Second Individual Class presented by KAFD got underway on day 2 of the GC Riyadh Playoffs. Luxembourg’s Victor Bettendorf raced to victory in the 1.50m class aboard Cancun Torel Z.
Bettendorf set off quickly with his 13-year-old mare as he looked to better Ben Maher’s time. The rider from Luxembourg laid down a lightning-fast time of 62.51 seconds, securing first place. When speaking to GCTV about the fantastic Cancun Torel Z, Bettendorf said, “she’s a super competitive mare, that’s why I took her here. She goes so fast that I don’t really need to go full speed to be fast.” Looking forward to tomorrow’s Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix, Bettendorf remarked, “if I end the day tomorrow like I do today, everything is good.”
Ben Maher had to settle for second in this 1.50m speed class. The British rider set the bar high early on in the class, delivering a time of 63.84 seconds with his mount Enjeu de Grisien. Third place went to Germany’s David Will riding Zaccorado Blue. Will flew across the course but could not quite match Maher’s time.
2024 LGCT Season Champion Max Kühner claimed fourth place. The Austrian rider made it look easy aboard EIC Cooley Jump the Q. Completing the top five was Canada’s Kyle Timm with Candar Mail. The pair effortlessly navigated the course, coming home clear on a time of 65.73 seconds.
