As stage 2 of the 2025 Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL arrives in Mexico City [27-30 March], the spotlight shifts to the horses competing at the highest level. These elite athletes are ready to take on the breathtaking Mexican venue, bringing power, precision, and heart to one of the most anticipated stops on the tour. Alongside the sport's top riders, a roster of highly decorated horses will take center stage in the thrilling competition ahead!
Among the exceptional talent set to take center stage is Fellow Castlefield, the trusted partner of Edwina Tops-Alexander. This combination made headlines with a podium finish in the 2024 LGCT Grand Prix of Shanghai and will be looking to continue their success. Another powerhouse arriving in Mexico City is EIC Cooley Jump the Q, who played a key role in Max Kühner’s triumphant 2024 LGCT Championship campaign.
Gilles Thomas brings his ever-determined mare Luna van het Dennehof, a crowd favorite known for her immense heart and ability to shine under pressure. The duo clinched victory in the 2024 LGCT Grand Prix of Shanghai and will be among the top contenders. Meanwhile, O'Bailey VH Brouwershof N.O.P, the consistent partner of Maiekl van der Vleuten, remains a major force, having significantly contributed to Maikel's top-10 finish in the 2024 LGCT championship race.
Another remarkable talent to watch is Ambassador Z, the dynamic mount of Inès Joly, who claimed an unforgettable win in the LGCT Grand Prix of Monaco last year. A fellow 2024 Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix winner arrives on the scene, with H&M Miro joining the ranks with Olivier Philippaerts. Christian Ahlmann arrives with two exceptional horses: Dourkhan Hero Z, a striking stallion full of promise, and Mandato van de Neerheide, with whom he claimed victory in the 2023 LGCT Grand Prix of Paris.
Katrin Eckermann’s Iron Dames Cala Mandia NRW is no stranger to the winner’s circle, having taken the top spot in the LGCT Grand Prix of Miami Beach in both 2023 and 2024. Similarly, Con Quidam RB with Sanne Thijssen boasts an impressive record, having conquered the LGCT Grand Prix of Madrid in 2022 and Valkenswaard in 2023.
Excitement also surrounds Conbalthago PS, Oliver Lazarus’ talented partner, who made a strong impression in Doha earlier this season. Mila, now paired with Nadja Peter Steiner, is another exciting combination to watch—though new to their partnership, Mila is no stranger to LGCT success, having previously campaigned under Ludger Beerbaum and Eoin McMahon. Lady van de Haarterhoeve returns to Mexico City with Fernando Martinez Sommer [MEX], aiming to replicate their 2024 GCL victory on home turf with the Prague Lions powered by Czech Equestrian Team.
With so much talent assembled in one place, the stage is set for an unforgettable weekend of show jumping. Adding to the excitement, Carlos Hank brings his striking bay mount H5 Porthos Maestro WH Z, who delivered an incredible clear round in last year’s LGCT Grand Prix of Mexico City, finishing just outside the podium in fourth place. Also making his mark, Sierra du Piedroux Z returns with Luiz Felipe Cortizo Gonçalves de Azevedo Filho after securing second place in the 2024 LGCT Grand Prix of Mexico City. This duo is determined to aim for one step higher on the podium this time around.
