The Mexico Amigos lead the way after Round 1 in the GCL of Rabat

The Mexico Amigos jumped into first place in Round 1 of the GCL of Rabat presented by Qatar’s Years of Culture as part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture. They will be eager to defend their position as they head into Round 2 later this evening. A stellar performance by the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames in Round 1 secured their GCL Championship victory.

Represented by Francesco Turturiello and Mouda Zeyada, the Mexico Amigos galloped into the arena. Turturiello looked to be on the hunt for a double clear aboard Palina Keeps ZL. He raced across the ring, posting one of the fastest times of the class. Next up was Mouda Zeyada on If Looks Could Kill O.H. Zeyada rode quick and clear, jumping into first place for the team.  

The Shanghai Swans secured second place in Round 1. Daniel Deusser was first to go for the team on Scuderia 1918 Tobago z. Deusser made it look easy, coming home on a clean sheet. Teammate Max Kühner was next up aboard Eic Julius Caesar. He expertly navigated the course, securing a second clear for the team.

Sitting in third place after Round 1 is the Stockholm Hearts powered by H&M We Love Horses. Malin Baryard-Johnsson posted a stylish, clear round aboard H&M Indiana. Olivier Philippaerts rode next for the team on the legendary H&M Legend of Love. Philippaerts came home clear, putting the team in a good position going into Round 2 as they look to defend their top four placing in the 2024 Championship standings.

The Rome Gladiators powered by ClipMyHorse.TV find themselves in fourth place following Round 1. Michael Duffy was first to go and delivered a smooth round for the team with Quirex. Next up was Kyle Timm who soared across the course, securing a second clear aboard Candar Mail.

Completing the top five in Round 1 was the Doha Falcons. The Falcons looked determined as they rode into the ring, eager to overtake the Prague Lions to secure a top four finish in the 2024 GCL Championship. Wilm Vermier was first to go for the team with Iq Van Het Steentje, coming home clear. Simon Delestre was next to go with Dexter Fontenis Z. Delestre smoothly navigated the course to post a second clear for the Falcons.  

Sitting just outside the top five in Round 1 are the teams that everyone has their eyes on: Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland Equestrian and the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames. Riesenbeck International posted two solid rounds from Christian Kukuk on Chageorge and Eoin McMahon on Mila, putting them in a strong position going into Round 2. While the Cannes Stars claimed the 2024 GCL Championship in style. Sophie Hinners gave a masterclass aboard Iron Dames Singclair and teammate Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann made it look easy as she soared to the win with Messi van ‘t Ruytershof.

With Round 1 complete, all eyes now turn to Round 2. The crowd in Rabat will be on the edge of their seats as we eagerly await to see which teams will secure a top four finish in the 2024 GCL Championship. The top four teams will earn an automatic fast track to the GCL Super Cup in Riyadh next month. Don’t miss a moment as we witness show jumping history in the making.
