Pieter Devos’ star horse Espoir has been retired after years of top-level competition success

Pieter Devos’ star horse Espoir has been retired after years of top-level competition success

The striking bay gelding Espoir is an international superstar and has had a stellar career with Belgium rider Pieter Devos.

Espoir (Surcouf De Revel x Perle D’or) was born in 2004 and joined Devos’ yard back in 2015 where the pair built a formidable partnership. The talented combination first competed on the Longines Global Champions Tour CSI5*  in 2016 at Antwerp. Since then they have consistently placed highly at LGCT Madrid, Doha, Cannes, Ramatuelle, St Tropez , and New York.

The seventeen-year-old has also had great success in the GCL team series helping secure podiums in Mexico City, Valkenswaard, New York, Miami Beach, Paris, Madrid and St Tropez.

Pieter explained “He has been my lifetime partner, a horse who had taught me so much. One with the biggest heart, and the one who has proven that if you listen - truly listen - believe, and work together, you can achieve unimaginable things.”

Espoir will be retired at Devos’ home in Belgium, where he will enjoy a quieter life of hacking and well-deserved field time.

We wish this very special horse a happy and well-earned retirement!
