Philipp Weishaupt’s long-time partner Coby 8 retires after a stellar LGCT and GCL career, leaving behind a legacy of podiums across the globe.

A remarkable chapter in the Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL came to a close as Philipp Weishaupt announced the retirement of his long-time equine partner, Coby 8. The 15-year-old Hanoverian gelding, sired by Contagio out of an Escudo mare, has been a formidable force on the circuit, known for his brilliance, consistency, and unmistakable presence in the arena.
A gleaming bay with a determined heart, Coby 8 built an enviable record on both the LGCT and GCL stages. He played a pivotal role in the GCL careers the powerhouse team, Riesenbeck International - delivering countless clear rounds and securing podium finishes at some of the most iconic destinations in the world. From the undeniable energy of Prague to the high drama of Riyadh to the glamour of Rome, the elegance of Stockholm to the electric atmosphere of Mexico City, Coby’s name became synonymous with reliability under pressure.
Speaking about the retirement, Weishaupt reflected on their extraordinary journey: “I owe many accomplishments to Coby. He is not only an exceptional sport horse, but also a special character who has grown dear to all of us. I am very happy that Alice made it possible for Coby to spend his entire international career with me and that he can now enjoy his well-deserved retirement with her.”
