The Longines Global Champions Tour officially launched its third stage of the 2025 season as the world’s top show jumping athletes gathered at the Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Centre. Following a successful debut of the new at this state-of-the-art venue last year, the Tour returns for a second time, building on the excitement and legacy established in 2024.
From 2–4 May, Shanghai once again becomes the epicenter of elite equestrian sport as the championship race continues its global journey.
The opening press conference set the tone for the weekend, celebrating the growing popularity of show jumping in China. Officials, riders, and media convened at the Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Centre - a world-class venue now firmly established as the permanent home for top-level show jumping in the region.
Located in the heart of the EXPO Cultural Park, the Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Centre is China’s first permanent professional equestrian facility. It features state-of-the-art stables, a live broadcasting hub, a horse clinic, an International Horse Art Centre, an Equestrian Academy, and a luxury International Jockey Club - setting a new benchmark for equestrian infrastructure globally.
Jan Tops, Founder and President of the Longines Global Champions Tour, praised the ongoing collaboration and development of the event in Shanghai:
“Together, we have built something very special here in Shanghai - a world-class event that not only showcases the best in show jumping but also reflects the spirit, energy, and innovation that this great city is known for.”
He went on to say: “We are incredibly grateful to our title partner and Official Timekeeper, Longines, our partners Juss Sports, and the entire local team whose hard work, vision, and dedication have made this event possible. Their commitment continues to raise the bar for what this sport can achieve in China and on the global stage.”
As the race to the championship intensifies, many of the world’s best riders have arrived to compete in Shanghai’s world-class arena. Among them is Belgium’s Gilles Thomas, winner of the 2024 Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Shanghai with his horse Luna van het Dennehof. He shared his appreciation for the event and its atmosphere:
“Last year was an incredible experience at the stunning new Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Centre. Luna settled in perfectly and delivered an amazing performance. We’re proud to be back this year to defend our title. A big thank you to the organisers, sponsors, and the amazing local crowd for making this event so special.”
With the third golden ticket to the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix on the line, the stakes are high. As one of 16 iconic destinations across three continents, Shanghai continues to play a pivotal role in a season defined by elite sport, passion, and precision.
