Meet This Week’s GCL Home Team: The Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames

Get ready to cheer on the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames as they battle it out in the glamorous GCL of Cannes. The team will be looking to defend their lead in the GCL Championship in front of their home crowd.

A part of the GCL since its inception in 2016, the Cannes Stars have emerged as a powerhouse team this season. Under the new ownership of Deborah Mayer and a new vision bringing together GCL's first ever all-female powered team, the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames have roared into the 2024 season to take a commanding lead in the championship standings. With two different versions of horsepower, the Iron Dames project, which started in 2018, has also become a formidable name in motorsport, achieving historic performances at the highest level of endurance racing while promoting women in sport and showcasing their passion all around the world.

Dominating the GCL Championship standings in 2024, the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames have won a third of the stages of the 2024 season thus far. The team opened the season with a bang, winning the first stage of 2024, the GCL of Doha. The team earned yet another win last week as the only team to finish on zero faults in the GCL Ramatuelle/St. Tropez. The Cannes Stars are also the only team to secure repeat wins this season.

The Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames are the first women-only team to ever take on the world-wide challenge of the GCL Championship. Headed up by team owner Deborah Mayer, the revamped team sees Dutch rider Kim Emmen returning to the team. Emmen is joined by fellow Dutchwoman Sanne Thijssen. German jumping sensations Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann, Katrin Eckermann, and Sophie Hinners joined the team this season. Rounding out the team is American U25 rider Natalie Dean.

With an ironclad roster this year, the Cannes Stars powered by Iron Dames will be looking to defend their lead in Cannes. Representing the team in Cannes will be Kim Emmen, Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann, and Sophie Hinners. The riders will be eager to score maximum points for their team as they go head to head with the world’s top talent on their home turf in Cannes.
