Hall of Fame: The Longines Global Champions Tour of Cannes

The Longines Global Champions Tour has arrived in the glamorous town of Cannes. As the world’s top riders and horses prepare to go head to head in our second stop along the French Riviera, we take a look back at the past winners of the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Cannes.

A fixture on the LGCT calendar since its inception in 2006, Cannes has become one of the most iconic stops of the tour. In the inaugural year of the Longines Global Champions Tour, the LGCT Grand Prix of Cannes was won by Austrian rider Thomas Frühmann aboard The Sixth Sense. In 2007, Belgium’s Gregory Wathelet won aboard Latinus 3. 2008 saw Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum claim the win aboard the iconic Shutterfly. In 2009, French rider Roger Yves Bost won on home turf riding Ideal de la Loge.

2011 saw the trophy go to Australia’s Edwina Tops-Alexander aboard the beloved Cevo Itot du Chateau. Dutch rider Gerco Schröder claimed the win in 2012 riding Glock’s London. In 2013, Marcus Ehning of Germany took the top spot aboard Plot Blue. In 2014, British showjumping sensation Scott Brash secured the win aboard his mount Hello Sanctos. It was a home win in 2015 for France’s Penelope Leprevost riding Ratina d’la Rousserie.

2016 saw the trophy handed back to Scott Brash, this time riding Hello Forever. In 2017, Sergio Alvarez Moya of Spain secured the win aboard G&C Arrayan. Sweden’s Peder Fredricson claimed victory in 2018 riding Hansson WL. In 2019, Belgium’s Niels Bruynseels took first place aboard Gianca de Muze.

After a short break due to Covid-19, the Longines Global Champions Tour was back under the glittering lights in Cannes in 2022. That year saw the trophy go to Germany’s Daniel Deusser aboard his mount Bingo Ste Hermelle. Last year in 2023, Dutchman Maikel van der Vleuten narrowly claimed the win aboard Beauville Z N.O.P.

As the competition heats up in Cannes, we eagerly await to see who will be victorious in this year’s Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Cannes and secure their golden ticket to the LGCT Playoffs in Riyadh in November. Will Maikel van der Vleuten secure a repeat win or can Scott Brash win in Cannes an unprecedented third time? Or will we see a new name be added to the LGCT Cannes Hall of Fame? Join us for an epic show jumping showdown under the lights in Cannes.
