With the Longines Global Champions Tour of Madrid kicking off in less than 2 days, final preparations are well underway. Taking place at the exclusive Club de Campo Villa on a stunning grass arena which is an iconic venue in the buzzing cultural heart of the Spanish capital, and an important hub for those passionate about equestrian sport.
2022 saw the second female winner of the coveted Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Madrid in the impressive U25 rider Sanne Thijssen. Speaking after her win, she said: “You can’t even put into words this feeling, I really wanted to win a Global (LGCT) Grand Prix. Now I have the opportunity and I wanted to take this chance and I took it. It is an unbelievable show here, there are so many people here which is amazing, the atmosphere is just top.”
In 2023, riders are again fighting for a golden ticket to the GC Prague Playoffs, where each individual winner will earn a place in the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix - the ultimate face-off in November where the season’s winning riders will battle for the lion’s share of €1.25 million euros.
