It's officially event week and all eyes are firmly set on the glittering Ramatuelle / St. Tropez for the fifth leg of the 2023 season.
The GCL is heating up with points between the top four teams closer than ever before. The Paris Panthers are leading by just 1 single point, with only 4 points separating the top four teams meaning that a single fault will change the standings at the top of the leader board. The GCL of Ramatuelle / St. Tropez acts as the 99th stage ever of the ultimate teams challenge, with historic victories being reminisced upon.
The 2023 season standings are:
2022 saw the Prague Lions be victorious in the first of the French Riviera destinations with the action going down to the wire as the duo of Pieter Devos and Niels Bruynseels clinched the win, after Stockholm Hearts powered by H&M We Love Horses dream team of Peder Fredricson and Malin Baryard-Johnsson finished a gut-wrenching half a second slower to take silver. The third spot on the podium went to Shanghai Swans who finished the fastest team on 8 faults.
Reliving the win with Pieter Devos as he commented after last year's victory: “The win feels really good, it is about time we are on the podium this season and I am really happy we did this performance. The horses jumped really good and Niels did a super job with a double clear. It was two difficult courses. I am very lucky to have a teammate like Niels, it makes the job easier for me."
Team mate Bruynseels went on to reflect: “It was a delicate course from the start and the last line was very technical - you needed to have everything under control today. I didn’t expect we would be faster than the Stockholm Hearts but today the luck was on our side.”
In 2023, riders are again fighting for a golden ticket to the GC Prague Playoffs, where each individual winner will earn a place in the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix - the ultimate face-off in November where the season’s winning riders will battle for the lion’s share of €1.25 million euros.
For those that can't join Global Champions on tour in Ramatuelle/St. Tropez GCTV will be streaming all the action!
