As the 2025 GCL Championship continues to unfold, we look back at the illustrious history of the GCL and its Hall of Fame – and spotlight Valkenswaard United, the home team flying their flag this weekend at Longines Tops International Arena.

Since its launch in 2016, the GCL has redefined show jumping with high-stakes team competition across the world’s most iconic destinations. Each season crowns a champion team that masters consistency, strategy, and unity across the calendar.

From Madrid in Motion making their mark in the first year here at GCL Valkenswaard, to Riesenbeck International's dominance in 2024, the Hall of Fame is a roll call of the sport’s elite. Last season, Riesenbeck International powered by HorseGym secured the 2024 Championship in commanding style.

Meet the Home Team: Valkenswaard United

A cornerstone of the GCL since its inception, Valkenswaard United are one of the most recognisable names in the sport. Season Champions in both 2016 and 2021, the team is famed for its mix of show jumping icons and rising stars, consistently delivering world-class performances across the globe.

This weekend on home soil, the spotlight will be on Marcus Ehning and Gilles Thomas.

• Marcus Ehning enters his 8th consecutive year with Valkenswaard United, a true team stalwart and a rider whose experience has been central to the squad’s successes over the years. Calm under pressure, he will look to deliver yet again for the home side.
• Gilles Thomas, now in his fifth season with Valkenswaard United, represents the new generation of talent within the team. Known for his consistency and sharp riding, he will be a key contender in Valkenswaard’s campaign this weekend.

With the home crowd behind them and a proud history to uphold, Valkenswaard United will be aiming to make their mark once more in the 2025 season.
