The ninth stage of GCL took place in Paris as the home team, Paris Panthers, won their first stage of the 2022 season. In this episode of The Insider, hosts Marc Lewis and Frederik De Backer look at the unique ring, built on top of a fountain in the heart of the city, and the difficult questions it asked of the riders and the course designer Gregory Bodo.

De Backer: "It's a dome-shaped ring, fairly small with a slope. It's easy to over or underestimates the slope. It's one of the most difficult arenas to build in and Bodo got it perfect."

The Insider team unpacks the cost of Eoin McMahon's runout on the final fence that cost the team the Paris title and crucial championship points that would've seen them close lead to just a single point. McMahon: "I think I was too tight and she didn't expect to jump that fence. There is a lot of emotion but you need to put it behind you."

The show highlighted the new faces in the GCL this weekend. Eduoard Schmitz, who jumped 4 and clear, was arguably the best of the group, helping Miami Celtics onto the podium.

De Backer: "He is very composed. It looks like he does everything in slow motion. It was a great round and he has two great horses. He is a great asset to his team."

This week's three Star Jumper nominees were also unveiled for standout moments and performances this weekend:

Lilly Atwood

Olivier and Jeanne Sadran

Isabella Russekoff

The competition heads to Monaco for round 10 this weekend. To find out more about GCL, watch The Insider with your GCTV Live Pass.
