Ireland’s Conor Swail and Errol proved unbeatable in the 1.45m CSI5* speed class on Friday, April 15, during the second day of the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) of Miami Beach. Swail and the 12-year-old gelding bested an international field of 30 competitors with a quick time of 60.18.
Uliano Vezzani designed an intricate track where 11 riders produced fault-free rounds. Spencer Smith of the United States went towards the end of the order and navigated a quick and clear round to take the lead. Swail was the next rider to compete and gave it his all to finish just over a second faster than Smith to top the leaderboard.
“He is a relatively new horse to me at this level,” said Swail of his mount. “We have just done a few 1.45m classes and a couple of 1.50m classes since I got him. He is very careful and fast. He’s a good winner.”
Swail is gearing up for the LGCT Grand Prix of Miami Beach taking place on Saturday as the highlight event.
“For tomorrow, I have my other horse Vital Chance de la Roque,” commented Swail. “He has been in great form. He has won a lot of Grand Prix classes over the last few months with me. Hopefully tomorrow we qualify first and then have a good shot at it.”
Smith claimed second place with Manhattan, an 11-year-old gelding. Germany’s Tobias Meyer and the 12-year-old mare Casabloanca-H secured third place honours.
My vision is clear. Only the best for the best.
