Breaking News: Riesenbeck International GCL Team Take Another Hit as Weishaupt Out With Injury

The current 2023 Longines Global Champions Tour Championship leader Philipp Weishaupt has suffered a debilitating injury, forcing a 4 - 6 week hiatus from riding after breaking a bone in his foot.

This is a double hit for the GCL team Riesenbeck International powered by Kingsland who are also leading the team series after their win at the opening event of the season in Doha. Team owner, manager and rider Ludger Beerbaum suffered a fall in Doha, with injury also sidelining him for the upcoming weeks in key preparation time for the next leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL team series.

Speaking to Global Champions Philipp Weishaupt explained: “I was out jogging with my dog and tried to jump a small hedge but tripped and fell over. I had surgery on the foot and they put pins in it.

“I am going to do everything possible to make it back in time for Miami Beach (12 - 15 April) but if not we have taken bloods from Eion McMahon and Philipp Schulze Topphoff’s horses as well.”

This unexpected time off gives Weishaupt more time to spend at home with his new born baby and wife but not without it's struggles: “It is hard to carry the baby while walking around on two crutches so I am not as helpful as I want to be.”

After a slippery fall in his garden, the German showjumping rider injured his foot. For Beerbaum Stables this is the second rider in two weeks time who's forced to put aside his riding boots for a while.

With his fairytale win in Doha, where he lifted both the GCL Team trophy alongside fellow Beerbaum Stables rider and friend, Christian Kukuk, and the LGCT Grand Prix of Doha trophy with his impressive mount Just Be Gentle, Weishaupt honored both Beerbaum and his newborn son after an 11 year spell between Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix wins.

Following an intense start to the 2023 Longines Global Champions Tour at the season opener in Doha, Qatar, the tour is just weeks away from the second stop for the year, where athletes will compete on the world famous Miami Beach, USA.

The question on everyone’s lips… Who will be riding for GCL team Riesenbeck International at Miami Beach?

My vision is clear. Only the best for the best.
