BREAKING NEWS: Edwina Tops-Alexander’s California Officially Retired

Today it has been announced that Edwina Tops-Alexander’s 15 year old bay mare, California, has officially retired from the sport of show jumping. As an integral part of Edwina’s team, California has been an incredible athlete on the world stage and is retiring to breeding duties.

In a statement, Edwina dedicated a tribute to her teammate: “Such a special horse that gave me and my team so much pleasure. California always tried her best and gave the maximum effort every time she entered the ring.”

Edwina went on to add: “We achieved a lot of goals but most importantly the bond and connection we had together was very special which I believe is the reason for everything.”

In closing her tribute, Edwina said: “Cali, you will be missed throughout the sport and I’m so grateful for everything you did for me.”

With prolific results on the Longines Global Champions Tour, Edwina and California’s highlight season was 2018 where their results included:

  • Winners, LGCT Super Grand Prix 2018
  • Winners, LGCT Grand Prix of Miami 2018
  • 3rd Place, LGCT Grand Prix of St Tropez 2018
