Basel Cosmopolitans: A New Force Joins the GCL Grid for 2025

A huge shift is coming to the 2025 GCL team series as an all-new powerhouse team bursts onto the scene. Say hello to the Basel Cosmopolitans — the latest team to shake up the show jumping world, backed by the vision of Thomas Straumann. This is more than just a debut; it’s a statement.

With a striking fusion of seasoned champions and rising stars, Basel Cosmopolitans is ready to take on the most elite teams in the sport. The energy is electric, the ambition is sky-high, and this squad is set to redefine what it means to be a debut team in GCL history.

“We have put together a team that blends experience, ambition, and top-tier talent. Our goal is simple: compete at the highest level and establish ourselves as a dominant force,” said Team Manager Andreas Schou.

Meet the Trailblazers of Basel Cosmopolitans:

 

  • Andreas Schou (DEN): A decorated Danish Olympian and a strategic mastermind, Andreas brings experience, leadership, and an unrelenting drive to win. With several years of experience competing in the GCL, his strategic approach and reliability make him an invaluable leader on the team.
  • Géraldine Straumann (SUI) [U25]:. A young Swiss talent full of promise, Géraldine has already achieved success in numerous international jumping competitions. As the daughter of team owner Thomas Straumann, her passion for the team runs deep, and she is eager to make a major contribution to its success as a U25 rider.
  • Jana Wargers (GER): A fierce competitor, Jana has impressed on the international circuit, selected for the German Olympic squad, Jana’s sharp instincts and calculated style make her a formidable opponent for her first year in GCL.
  • Marlon Módolo Zanotelli (BRA): A proven champion within GCL with multiple victories under his belt, Marlon’s competitive fire is set to be a game-changer for Basel Cosmopolitans.
  • Michael Duffy (IRL): Michael has a history of delivering under pressure in high-stakes events. Winner of the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Miami 2024, his tenacity and risk-taking ability make him a key player in the team’s pursuit of success.
  • Zascha Nygaard Lill (DEN): A talented Danish rider with an impressive track record, Zascha has showcased her skills as part of the GCL winning team in London last year. Her determination and technical expertise will be vital assets to Basel Cosmopolitans’ campaign.


With a combination of seasoned veterans and ambitious rising stars, Basel Cosmopolitans is ready to challenge the best in 2025. Team owner Thomas Straumann summed it up best: “With Basel Cosmopolitans, we have a team that not only focuses on unconditional success but also attaches great importance to maintaining ethics in our sport.
