GCL Day Takes Centre Stage in Valkenswaard

Friday 4 September puts GCL firmly in the spotlight as the Championship returns to its roots in Valkenswaard, with world-class team sport, exclusive fan access and a special celebration of ten years of GCL.

The countdown is on to GCL Day at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Valkenswaard, as the world’s leading riders and teams return to the Home of Show Jumping on Friday 4 September.

In GCL’s 10th anniversary year, there could be few more fitting places for a pivotal day of Championship action. Valkenswaard hosted its first GCL stage in 2016, the inaugural season of the League, and has since provided the backdrop to some memorable team victories.

That first Valkenswaard title went to Madrid in Motion, represented by Alberto Zorzi and Pedro Veniss. A year later, Hamburg Diamonds took the honours through Jos Verlooy and Harrie Smolders.

New York Empire added their name to the Valkenswaard roll of honour in 2019, with Georgina Bloomberg, Daniel Bluman and Spencer Smith, before Berlin Eagles claimed victory in 2022 with Ludger Beerbaum and Philipp Weishaupt.

Most recently, Prague Lions powered by Czech Equestrian Team  triumphed in 2025 as Fernando Martinez Sommer and Pieter Devos delivered the winning performance.

Ten years on, every point matters

Now, a decade after GCL first launched, the Championship returns to Valkenswaard with another crucial battle ahead.

With the 2026 season entering its decisive stages, Friday’s GCL competition offers teams another opportunity to make their move in the Championship standings, where every clear round, every second and every point can have an impact on the road to the title.

Fans can watch GCL Valkenswaard live and free on GCTV, following every round as the teams go head-to-head at one of the sport’s most iconic venues.
