At the heart of Global Champions is the horse. Every spectacular jump, every unforgettable round and every partnership celebrated in our arenas begins with an equine athlete whose wellbeing comes first.
As we head to Stage 14, the Longines Global Champions Tour of Cairo founded by Qatar’s Years Of Culture, another international journey brings that commitment into focus. From Miami Beach and Mexico City to Shanghai, Cairo and Rabat, the 2026 season takes our equine athletes around the world. Preparing them for journeys across continents, different climates and world-class competition takes expertise and individual attention. Keeping them fit, happy and healthy throughout that journey is our top priority.
That commitment is why we work with Connolly’s RED MILLS, a fifth generation family business, who manufacture and distribute all their products from Kilkeeny, Ireland. Their brands CONNOLLY’S RED MILLS, Foran Equine and Carr & Day & Martin bring together expertise in feed, supplements and horse care as our Official Nutritional & Care Partner.
In our video feature, “What It Takes to Travel a Champion”, we catch up with Zascha Nygaard, LGCT competitor and RED MILLS ambassador, and Nia O’Malley, RED MILLS and Foran Equine nutritionist, to explore the work behind the performances.
For Nia, preparation starts weeks before the horses arrive at an event. Working closely with riders and grooms, she considers each horse’s feeding programme, energy requirements and recovery needs, helping teams plan ahead for their journey. Where a change of feed is required, that preparation allows horses to transition gradually before travelling.
Maintaining familiar routines is central to the approach. Knowing that the same feed will be available away from home helps teams preserve consistency from their own stables through to the competition venue. Each horse has different requirements, so nutrition and supplement plans are tailored to the individual, with support available as the competition unfolds.
Zascha shares what that reassurance means as a rider travelling internationally with her horses. Being able to plan from home, knowing what will be available on arrival and having knowledgeable people on hand all contribute to the confidence of the team around her.
Alongside nutrition, daily care remains essential. From feeding and hydration to grooming, rest and recovery, the work continues throughout the event and into preparations for the return journey. Carr & Day & Martin supports those daily grooming routines, complementing the feed and supplement expertise of RED MILLS and Foran Equine.
Together, their insights reveal how much sits behind a few minutes in the arena—and how closely riders, grooms and nutritional specialists work together to support the horse at every stage.
