The countdown is officially on to the first event of the 2023 Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL Season, with the much anticipated ticket sales launched tomorrow.
As teams and individual riders enter into their final preparation phase, strategies and plans are already at play. The stars of show jumping will be heading to Qatar for the all-important first leg which takes place at the world class AL SHAQAB equestrian centre in the capital city Doha from 2 to 4 March.
Once again the soaring architecture of the arena will be a magnificent backdrop to top-level show jumping with the first Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of the season taking place on Saturday 4 March where the champion will earn the first golden ticket to the LGCT Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs in November.
The first GCL showdown of the year gets underway with teams already selecting their key combinations to get valuable early points on the scoreboard. Team managers will work out their strategies with riders and owners to field the best pairings for the Longines Arena in Doha which is an expansive 120m x 80m where the action takes place under floodlights.
As the first event of the season, all eyes will be on the new GCL format, with all competition now taking place on the same day which is designed to benefit both horse, rider and team strategy.
The Longines Global Champions Tour of Doha follows the tenth edition of Commercial Bank CHI AL SHAQAB Presented by Longines from 23-25 February 2023. As one of only five CHI competitions worldwide, and the first and only equestrian event of its kind in the Middle East and Asia regions, the Commercial Bank CHI AL SHAQAB further promotes Qatar as a world-class sports destination, while paying tribute to the country’s rich equestrian heritage.
All the action will be streamed live on GCTV with expert commentary and analysis ensuring show jumping fans across the world can follow their favourite riders and horses throughout the event.
My vision is clear. Only the best for the best.
