Young star Harry Charles (GBR) made his first appearance on the Longines Global Champions Tour this week and he certainly didn’t disappoint. The 19 year old jumped his first clear round in a 5* Grand Prix perfectly, finishing a very respectable 6th overall riding the talented 9 year old Gelding, ABC Quantum Cruise.
He explained to us what his game plan was for this prestigious show held in the middle of Chelsea, as he took centre stage against the top international riders in the world; ‘My aim was to qualify for the LGCT Grand Prix but to qualify, jump clear and finish overall in sixth was just amazing. It has exceeded all expectations, especially from my horse.’
The jump-off may not have suited Harry’s horse entirely but he still gave it a very admirable attempt. Following his round Harry said: ‘I saw Scott’s jump-off round and me and dad just looked at each other and thought - how can you beat that!’
Harry is stepping up to the bigger tracks and staying competitive which from someone still in their teenage years is great for the sport: ‘I thought I could be quick enough for third place but I made a slight mistake and added one more stride than I should have done which resulted in four faults.’
This combination will be one to watch for the future as on Sunday they also finished sixth in the 1.55m Speed class against some of the biggest names in the show jumping world.
Harry finished off by saying: ‘I would love to come back to this fantastic show, it really is the best of the best.’
