Flashback: The Best of Cannes 2019

The Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL team competition travelled to another stunning European location in 2019, visiting the iconic riviera town of Cannes on the French Cote D’Azur.

The competition played out on the square sand arena next to the glittering turquoise Mediterranean Sea, and the grandstand and hospitality lounges were full to bursting for a night of high octane show jumping. Competition began under clear blue skies, and as the sun began its slow descent over the ocean, long shadows threw plenty of shapes across the arena, and the floodlights came on to light up the stage.

In the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Cannes Presented by Volvo, Niels Bruynseels piloted his speedy mare Gancia de Muse around Gregory Bodo’s difficult track, designed to test the best of the best. Clearly emotional after his first-ever LGCT Grand Prix victory Bruynseels said: “I have no words! To win a GP like this means a lot to me. I have to thank my horse. One of the best horses I have had in my life.”

Meanwhile the GCL team competition was full of dramatic action as an evening of extraordinary sport unfolded. Father and son duo Eric and Maikel van Der Vleuten sped around the testing course for Madrid in Motion, triumphing after securing the only double clear of the weekend, watched on by team owner Marta Ortega.
